Photoshop CS3 beta is available for download. It's finally universal and the difference is simply amazing. I tested both CS2 and CS3 with similar tasks and the responsiveness of this beta is snappy, quick and satisfying. The only downside is the icon. Thankfully someone tweaked the CS2 icon and came up with what you see on the left.
Unfortunately you need a valid CS2 serial number for CS3 to work. Otherwise you can only try it for two days.
Just trying out Gawker...
If you have a MacBook I would avoid this update. All my windows look blue! It screws up some preference and no amount of ColorSync profiling can fix this. If I drag my Preferences folder onto the desktop and log out everything's fine. Then I start restoring my preferences and the blue metal/aqua windows come back.
There are a couple of discussions on the Apple Support webboard about this issue. Here are the RSS feeds:

Frustrating!
UPDATE: It seems like the update corrupts the LCD ColorSync profile. Someone on the Apple Discussion board uploaded the original profile. If you want the file let me know (unless someone knows how to host files in voxland?) It’s a little bit too red IMO but it’s better than the blue wash that appeared after the update.
Run the ColorSync Utility, Open the Original LCD profile and save it ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles and call it Original LCD. Then open the Displays system prefpane and click on Color. You should see two Color LCD profiles. Click between them and you should see a difference.
Again, this is not a total fix yet.
More on 10.4.8 Problems: Some users are reporting hot MacBooks again.
UPDATE: Avoid this like the plague! Aside from what’s mentioned above, my internet connection slowed down and the MacBook was much hotter. I re-installed 10.4.6 and then updated that back to 10.4.7.
Another useful feature in OSX. In any cocoa app (Safari, TextEdit, Stickies, etc..), start typing a word then hit the Escape key. A dropdown list appears that matches the word! Cool, yes?
It's developed by Dave Watanabe, the guy behind NewsFire (the best RSS reader) and AquisitionX (and the best Limewire/Gnutella client).
Another thing I didn’t know about OSX... highlight a word, press command-control-D and it does this!
A drop-down contextual dictionary and thesaurus. Cool.
PS: that screengrab is from my brother Mahmood’s blog. Not from his voxlog.
I thought I knew most of the shortcuts in OSX. After reading this I was wrong. For example, I always knew that command-shift-3 captures the current screen and saves it to a file on the desktop. I usually take the screen grab into Photoshop and crop what I need. What I didn’t know was command-shift-4 captures the part of the screen you define!
I’m sure you’ll find one or two things you didn’t know. Go read the list!
There‘s a new version of Azureus and a new website as well. There are a few changes in this one.
First and foremost, it looks like it doesn't hog many resources. I’m running it right now and it takes less than 5% of the CPU (slightly less than iTunes).
Double-clicking a torrent file now launches Azureus and starts downloading instead of just running the app and waiting. The interface seems to be slightly better and the app is a bit more responsive.
And it’s a Universal Binary.
